Any body have any idea about safety issue of installing aftermarket carbon fibre hood panel? Is carbon fibre parts (hood, fender, door, etc)repairable? If yes, will it cost more to repair compare with OEM metal panel?

as you know carbon fibre doesnt crush or bend and is much stronger, structurally. i have heard stories of front end collisions with the CF hood not breaking and coming through the windshield because it didnt break (very dangerous). carbon fibre, like fibreglass can be repaired to a certain extent but normally shatters at the breaking point. obviously CF parts would be more expensive because of the production process and the lack availability of parts. hope i helped!

I also heard that cop does not like modified car such as install CF parts. They love to stop the car like that and try to give hard time. So, some people have to change back to normal parts because their cars were stoped by cop all the time.

yeah but now cops apperently are starting to crack down on street racing and are planning on pulling over and car that looks to be modified for street racing

because the FnF image is put off on those cars
So thats what they will be looking for
But i heard on the radio this morning that street racing is going to be a much bigger crime etc.

Was just reading through the post, and though im only 15, i registered just to comment on this. Cops will pull you over and give you a hard time when you dont have a carbon fibre hood, but if they see you with one your more likely to get pulled over. They see a car with expensive parts on the outside, so they are obviously going to think theres alot under the hood. Its a proven fact cars pull over people in street race cars more often. My brother just bought a 89 honda civic, its lowered and has a body kit and its loud, the cop started hastling us before we even got home. They wanted to give us a ticket for unnecesary noise. We told him we were picking the car up with dealer plates, and he yelled at us going this isnt the proper way to purchase cars from other people, and all this crap. If you have a car that looks good on the outside and its a import, the cops will pull you over.

carbon is alot stiffer then metal... as for bs from cops... well there arent alot of people with cf parts on the road.. mostly cf lips/ spoilers. OEM parts will also absorb some of the shock from an accident, if uv seen pics or some of those high end carbon body car in accidents, youll see its like all debris on the road.
repairin is a bit more and there are limits to how much repair can be made... some problems with carbon is that u get these 'faded' out sun spots ( more or less - dependin on quality)

just dont get like a whole front end out of carbon--- unless your goin to park REALLy far and/or use it as a weekend car or show car

I agree with the carbon fibre being alot stronger and lighter then normal hoods. As for popularity, im starting to see alot more carbon fibre hoods out, mostly because the weather is nice enough for the cars to come out, but im seeing more and more cars with carbon fibre hoods. I think people buy them to show off how much money they have and they really would rather go for looks instead of a performance upgrade for there car. If its a show car, then the carbon fibre is probably the way to go unless you have some hood with scopes or designs on it.

Carbonfiber body parts are stronger, lighter and usually more exspensive the metal oem body parts. However, carbonfiber is more brittle than steel meaning it won't bend like steel when hit with enough force it will shatter and come apart which is irrepairable.

As for the fuzz (police), If you are driving like a **** (ie. revving your car up to 5000 rpm and dumping the clutch, resulting in a smoke show down the street), they will definetly pull you over. Carbon fiber hood or not.

realisticly if a cop gives you a hard time about a carbon product(or any body part), the law does not specify the owner must stay with oem products. Carbon looks nice but the clearcoat will scratch, chip, fade after a few good canadian years. If i had the cash i'd do it looks good. As for the noise from a exhaust, a officer may pull you over if its to loud. Once in court its all interpretation. How loud? How was it measured? Did he use a DB reader? If not it most likely will not hold up in court. Now if its loud because there's no cat, thats a nice ticket
