Exclamation B17 Questions

I have a b17 and i dont know what to do with it, im am wondering what would give me more juice, a b18 vtec or a b16 or should i keep this b17. I am also wondering about parts, am i able to use b18/16 bolt on's for the b17? Im Looking to run my car all motor an N/A setup. Would that be better or should i turbo my motor and call it a day?

And also does anyone know what the 3 digets in a compression ratio stand for? (IE. 10.1.0)

compression ratios are usually given as 10:1 or 9.5:1 etc. this means 10 to 1 or 9.5 to 1 compression ratio.

i had a b17 and had boosted it with completely stock internals. at 8psi i was making around 280whp with some good tuning. given more time for tuning i could probably have made around 300whp at around 10psi or more with lots of reliability.

the b17 is basically a b16 with a different crank and rods which yeilds a bit more displacement. otherwise they are identical. the b17 would be great for going n/a or boost, but the only problem you will find is that it will be difficult to find aftermarket rods. the pistons are the same bore as b16's and b18's so they will work fine. a lot of people doing all motor b16's want the b17 crank and rods because of the added displacement without the need to change the whole bottom end.

personally, i will boost every motor i have. you will spend far more money building a n/a motor that makes less hp than a simple turbo setup. if you plan on going boost and aiming for more than 350-400whp i'd go with a ls/vtec setup as finding the b18 forged rods will be much easier and probably cheaper. you could probably sell the b17 crank and rods and buy yourself a cheap ls block and put forged internals in it.

could even put the LS crank and aftermarket rods in a B18C block and yield slightly more displacement with the added deck height. And then sell me your B17

all B-series parts fit B-series for example b16,b18c1, b18c5 all fit one another

can you put b16 rods in a b18? NO. can you put b18 rods into a b16? not unless you want to put your pistons through your valves. same goes for cranks, they are not interchangeable. pistons, yes. can you swap head studs? NO. the b18 block has a taller deck height. you may even run into trouble trying to put a b16 header onto a b18 block due to the taller deck.

IntegraMark has a spectacular aura aboutIntegraMark has a spectacular aura about
what ever bolts on to a b16 or b18 vtec will bolt on to your b17. the b17 has 117tq where a 1gen b16 has 112tq. they achieved this by changing the crank rods and pistons as was already listed above. this motor was a big deal at the time it was released because it was the first time a vtec motor came in a USDM car that wasn't an NSX.only made for 2 years they had it setup for more torque to try and meet the american markets want for more torquier engines with out sacraficing the high revving power of vtec. you really won't notice much of a difference compared to a b16 but to have a built up "black sheep" motor would be badass.

Aaron i'm jealous of your b17. 1 of 2 of the rarest ones you can get....i only wish
