Civic Hatchback Head swap?

Civic Hatchback Head swap?
I got a '91 civic hatchback from a guy that was changing the head from a non-vtec to a SOHC vtec. he says all you need to do is put the head on and it will work. I was thinking that there would be more to it to get the vtec to kick in (ecu, wiring, something), is there?
