does it depend on how much you lower?
hey guys! i've done some research..and ppl say that if you run lowering springs on stock shocks...your stock shocks will end up leaking and will end up driving like a boat! but does that depend on hwo much you lower it? and how much more your shocks are compressed compared to stock specifications? let me knwo! thanks!

well it depends. i dont think you can lower it as you wish with springs as you would with coilovers, because you cant adjust the springs or stock shocks.. but with stock shocks and lowering springs, its okay casue usually the drop is only 1.7 inches, but you still run the risk of blowing the shocks, depending on how you drive. best is to get adjustable shocks, but they cost $$$

it all depends ive known ppl wit slamed car on stock shocks that they say ride better than aftermarket... i say go full coil over but if u want to go low for cheap buy a coil over u cant go wrong wit the adjustablility... but if you want to lower the car for better handeling hands down lowering springs are better than adjustable coils.

thanks

theres different types of coils though. regular coils do what lowering springs do. change the spring rate but offer no change in stiffness from the shock (the car only feels stiffer cuz now your lowering the amount of travel the shock has). so yes you can adjust your height but not much else. with DAMPENING you can change soft (caddy style) to firm (for track use). you can get koni yellows, tokicos whatever with dampening adjustment. this will allow you to fine tune your suspension for how you want it. i know stock ride height cars that will tear up because of their suspension setup (type r tegs arent very low and will outhandle almost anything). you need to find the balance between how low you want your car and how you want your car to handle.

Yes you need to replace your shocks with SHORTER ones if you want to lower your car beyond a certain point (or if you want to have your shocks last). This has NOTHING to do with the firmness (or adjust ability of the shocks)
BECAUSE.... when you lower your car your reducing the travel of the suspension... if you keep your stock shocks you will bottom them out and cause them to break/leak.
As for how much more they're compressed compared to stock, that will all depends on the drop you go for.

adjustable coils = cheap
lowering spring = cheap + good ride quality
full coilver = best

im on lowered springs and aftermarket shocks (eibach prokit and koni yellows), and the combination has worked well for track work, that said.. i wouldnt mind if they blew, cuze then i'd get a chance to go full coilovers!
dam i wish i got more money......
