e-brake handle

how do you take the e-brake handle off? i want to install this metallic one that i got off a friend. i gave up trying lol. car is a 97 civic.

I was told they slide off if you mess around with it - but after 3 minutes, I ran out of patience and Dremel'd it

both mine came off by pulling and twisting side to side.

thanks anyways guys, i gave up lol...i dont want to cut it off its not worth replacing.
