it might be expensive to pickup a completed ls/b20/vtec engine because people usually put in other aftermarket parts in it, so i say with a vtec conversion setup, build it to match your specifications. like if your going n/a, or for boost, or even stock with bolt ons. you can pick up parts and stuff through the classifieds here, or our sponsors, and/or optionjdm

a swap with all supporting parts can be easily over $3000. I would recommend a b18a or b18b. The used japanese engine can land you around the 800 dollar mark and all the supporting parts will land you at around the $2000 range. This will leave you with extra cash to do some work with the engine wether it be ls/vtec or bolt ons.

OBD0 B16a. about $2000 for the complete swap (with mounts, linkage, axles etc.) from Tiger Japan. You only need to run 4 new wires. Very easy, lots of fun and you can always go turbo later on if you want more power.
If I could do it all over again though, I would build my a6 and turbo it = more power for similar cost.

Alright well guys it all bears down to what he really meant by 3000 dollar swap. Out the door for 3000 or 3000 parts. I would imagine based on his replies that he is going to get a shop to do the installation and at that point his options would probably end up being b16,b18a otherwise if he could source something cheaper from the forums.
