This will be another bold move by honda and I gather it will be successful. Its a green move in some ways and a honda "power of dreams" move in another. I like it.
"A typical North American does not associate the Honda brand with diesel engines. We just don't find diesel-powered Accords and Ridgelines around these parts. However, when you venture outside of the North American market, you'll discover than the garden variety Honda Civic is, in fact, available with a 2.2L diesel engine, producing something like 140 horsepower.
That's all fine and dandy, but when you take a gander at some of the Civic's direct competition -- VW Golf, Toyota Auris, Renault Megane, among others -- they've got some rather beefy diesel options, pushing the horsepower count to about 170. What is Honda to do? Well, there are rumors floating about that the Honda Civic Type R may soon receive the 2.2L CTDi engine from the Accord. This would blast out 180 horsepower and 315 lbs-ft of torque.
A diesel-fueled Civic Type R is a "strong possibility" according Honda powertrain engineer Kenichi Nagahiro. "High revving has to be a part of it and that's what we're working on.""
