Honda vs Mazda New Car ?

We need a new car. We are a family of 3 (2 adults,1 baby) and we hope to have another 1-2 children. I bought a Civic out of college and have 150,000 miles on it - it has been WONDERFUL. I am looking at the Accord now, but recently, the Mazda 6, 7 and 9 have caught my eye. I also live in Detroit where American Cars are the push as so many people have lost their jobs. I would love to support American Car companies, but after owning 3 Fords (2 Tempos 1 Taurus) and 1 Honda; I just do not have the confidence to buy another Ford/Chrysler/GM. I know Mazda is owned by Ford, but I have heard great things. Please give me your opinions on the Mazda 6,7 or 9 in comparison to the Honda Accord or CRV - in regards to my family situation (Hey, $20k+ is a lot to spend - this thing has to last!!!)

I have only owned one Mazda, had to replace the transmission not once, but TWICE in the first six months of owning it. I have owned 4 honda/acuras. Never had a problem. I gave my MIL my 1994 acura, nearly 200,000 miles, runs perfectly still.

The Honda is the best bet, more reliable and of the two I would go for the Accord.

I would go for the Mazka that would possibly hold 7 people, because if you have 3 children total soon, that would have 5 people in your family and you would want them all to be seated comfortably not to mention the space car seats take up and if your children want to bring friends when you go somewhere. If you want something to last, I would go for the Mazda in my opinion, Honda's are great and all but I am not sure if they last terribly long.Hope this helps!

mazda6 is a great car better than the honda, but have you thought of the Vw Passat, they are really good, german build quaility and hold value well and good mpg. I would personnally go with something german, even if it means going for something used, maybe even a bmw 3 series.the rest of masda's range is not that good, and the new crv is not brilliant to say the least.

The mazda 6 is an excellent vehicle. It has a sporty look and its fast and reliable. Its a sedan too, so theres room for your fam. The crv doesnt look as good and i'm not so sure about it in terms of reliability. You can't go wrong with a newer accord however. So I think you have narrowed it down to some reliable options, I say either the accord or the mazda 6. all the best

I'm with you on wishing I could find an "American" car to love. My son just purchased a Ford Fusion - which has been awesome (his first) and he got a great deal in comparison to the Honda Civic we looked at. Of course, he's leasing so we're not expecting the car to last 150,000+ miles (lol). I love my Honda Civic and can't understand why the Detroit Auto Makers can't make a GREAT car like that. I've been waiting 25 years now!! (Owned 3 Ford Pintos before my Honda Accord). Anyway... to answer your question (finally). Mazda's are awesome. We had a Mazda wagon that lasted 15 years and over 200,000 miles. Still, I love Honda. Go to Fischer Honda in Ypsilanti...
