Occasionally, I will start up my accord and find that the shifter won't smoothly shift. I have to force the shifter to move into 1st gear, then 2nd, and so on. Also, I notice that when the clutch is fully depressed, the clutch is still slightly engaged. I have actually backed out of a parking spot with the clutch pushed down to the floor (shifter in reverse) as far as it will go! What is really odd to me is that this doesn't always happen. Some days the shifter shifts smoothly and there seems to be no problem. Also worth mentioning, the clutch peddle moves about half way down before there is any tension. What is going on? Is this serious and what is the cheapest way to fix this.

Very likely the hydraulic portion of the clutch system has a leak. It's usually the slave cylinder that leaks first. Here's one way to check. Up near the LH side of the firewall is a small resevior for fluid. It looks a lot like the brake fluid resevior only smaller. Make sure this is full. It takes regular DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid. It's probably empty. Fill it up and depress and release the clutch pedal several times. The pedal travel should get better. It will still need to be bled correctly and will likely need the both the master and slave cylinders replaced. It's not a labor intensive job. A good honest shop should charge under $300. Good luck

Hey bro I probably know what your problem is 1st check and see if you clutch is cable operated or hydrolicaly operated. If so make the proper adjustments. Also you may want to invest in some ne transmission fluid. When Transmission fluid has broken down enough the viscosity of the oil is not as great as it use to be. In other words the oil is like really thick instead of really smooth. Also invest in a chilton's manual for your car. Its basically th bible for you car inside and out.
