I just recently got a 1996 Integra GS-R a little over a month ago at 217,000kms. I was wondering when I should change the timing belt and water pump? I hear that it should be changed every 90,000miles (144,000kms) I'm now at 220,000kms so I'm not sure if I need to change or not. I read somewhere I should change it at 70,000 miles (120,000kms) if I'm driving it under heavy conditions. So should I be changing it at 288,000kms or 240,000kms? And if I do change the belt I should change the water pump as well?

Change it every 120,000 kms and aswell change the waterpump and tensioner and spring. There is a reason timing belt and waterpump go hand and hand. Say you just repalce the timing belt and then your pump begins to leak and contaminates your timing belt now you have to go in and replace the pump and the belt again. Also if your replace the pump and not the belt the belt can possibly snap or even stretch. The tensioner should b replaced aswell as this can cause caterstrophic results if it fails.

I'm on a tight on cash right now. Anyone know any places around the GTA to get it done for a decent price. How much should I expect to pay for all these.

you will need:

coolant, waterpump, timing belt, tensioner & spring

it wouldn't hurt for a new thermostat and radiator cap, but it is not neccissary.

I'm thinking I can change the radiator cap, rotors, spark plugs, plug wires, and oil filter myself. I just want to know what parts I should tell the mechanic to change also with the timing belt while his in there. The other components that I can change myself I'll change later unless I get a good price on the labour.

Can anyone link me to a website so I can order these parts online for cheaper that ships to Canada as well. It's going to be a lot more expensive if I get these parts at the dealer isn't it?

Your mechanic is going to want to replace all these parts anyway. This isnt going to be the first timing belt hes changed, probably not even the first integra belt hes changed. I dont think ive ever got a quote for a timing belt where they didnt want to change the water pump, belt and tensioner.

if you want it done cheap get and aftermarket belt, im not sur if you can get the water pump after market but its not a big deal to change anyways but while your in their just cahnge it. i dont know what honda would charge but im sure you get someone to do it for cash.

GET IT DONE - least get it checked. I got my timing done and they notice my belt was off by a tooth. Threw my valves into whack and gave mad hesitation.
