Type R Motor Boost?
#4
IMHO Boosting an ITR motor is sin. there's no real difference between that and the gsr they're both high compresion. even if it has vtec or not, it's not gonna matter if you're gonna do a full build on it like changing the rods, pistons and cams

if that's what's already in the car, then go for it. R motors are famous for n/a power and i personally think that if someone is gonna build up an R motor they keep it n/a.
sell the block and get a b20 it'll save you some coin

why take a high compression motor change everything to make it low compression when you can take a lower compression motor and save yourself some coin that's just my opinion.

I dont know much about hondas, but the people the boost R dont they run a little bit lower boost due to the compression, but that way you have virtually no lag?...I'm prolly wrong here

well because the stock motor has already high compression its not really built for a turbo. high compression is usually a smaller combustion chamber, so putting a spacer makes for a larger chamber lowering compression. you turbo to cram more air into the motor, so making more room is generally a better idea. problem with high compression and boost would be heat, only because your cramming more air into a small chamber.. so theres a chance of pre-ignition (air/fuel detonating before piston hits TCD and spark plug firs). high compression is good for NOS or all motor power. i doubt headspacers are that expensive and id go the extra step and build a motor thats capable of holding a good amount of power. honestly allan id go and talk with GSR matt, he did build that 417whp civic and im sure he could lead you in the right direction.

It is possible with precise tuning and low boost, but your power band is gonna be all wonky u wish u regret doing it. Also u will have very little room to upgrade. Like the guys were saying a R motor is pricey all on its own and if you were going to buy it to build your better off choosing a different engine thats less money and spend the extra money into the build.
