vtec question?

vtec question?
does vtec really help in racing?
i mean its lousy in low RPMs right? i have this thing in my mind that non-vtecs are better in racing coz of no intake restrictions in low RPMs or all through out the redline???

Vtec helps only after about 5k rpm
all vtec does is after the rpm switch kicks in the motor will switch over to the middle lobe on the cam meant only for top end it has a higher lift an duration. witch gives you more hp. and allows you to rev higher. the newer cars have ivtec witch is the same but Honda has integrated cam timing with the cam lobe change

Actually vtec is varriable timeing depending where the car is at on the rev just determiens how many valves are open so you are not just pulling power away at low rev with opening and closing the valves which arent really needed. when all four valves per cylinder are openin and closein that means the vtec is working flowing more fuel and air in and more exhaust out. basic mechanics the more fuel and air in and the more exhaust out the more horsepower you can make.
