2000 honda civic burning smell?
i have a 2000 honda civic ex 5 speed with 86,550 miles (i know that is really low mileage lol). since about early november or so, off and on, we have noticed a burning smell, my husband says it is like burning rubber, but i think it smells like when you spill something on a burner on the kitchen stove and then use the burner (i am a cook, not a mechanic lol). last night, i was driving home from work around 9:30 pm, and 10 minutes or so into the drive, i smelled the burning smell inside the car, though i wasn't running the fan on the a/c. it wasn't a strong smell, but i could smell it. i got home, checked all the tires for flatness, and when i walked in front of the car, i could smell the odor coming from the grill. no smoke, just smell. my husband checked the coolant, and it was a tad low, so he added some. my oil needs to be changed, but it isn't bad or low. we can't see any leaks, as there are no stains where i park in the garage. what could this be? help please! thanks!
i was on a bypass running steady at 65 mph. could it be a clutch when you aren't using it? i know nothing about cars and don't want to get juiced by the dealership or a mechanic. thanks again!
