big perm

i have a 98 civic. i smoked a curb pretty good with the driver's side front wheel over the winter, and now i have a nasty shake in the steering wheel at 65-70 mph. i had a bent rim, so i replaced the rim. tires are all inflated to proper pressure and balanced. do i need an alignment possibly? did i screw up some steering component? i can feel a bit of slop in the wheel now that didn't used to be there before i slid into a curb like a jackas$. any suggestions for a fix would be appreciated.

bent rim, needs alignment, suspension problem...kinda broad...different rim might be best bet...local junk yard or something like that could help ya out

if the wheel is balanced...all 4 wheels ...u have other probs.... an bad alignment will not cause shake...bheck ball joints and tie rod ends...

Check the alignment, and at the same time have them check the front suspension components

It sounds like you bent a tie rod end to me, an alignment would not help because if you have a bad steering part a garage won't align it without fixing the tie rod first. Look under the car on the side you hit the curb on and look for a bent part or a loose part, tie rods will turn a few degrees from side to side but if it has play or a bend in it, it has to be replaced. If left unattended it could cause your tire on that side to wear quickly. Get it fixed before something bad happens, until you do you are just doing more damage to everything from vibration.

before you do anything look at the tire for any bulges or at the tread the tread lines should be straight if there shifted in spots that will cause a vibration. you will need a new tire if this is the case.
