I'm looking at a 1990 crx si and the vavle covers look like the ones on my 1991 civic dx, they just say Honda on them. How can I tell if it's a true v-tech other than finding and running the vin on the block?

See if there is a vtec solenoid on the back of the left hand (looking in the engine compartment)side of the head. That's for a d series.

For a b series the vtec solenoid will be right in front of the distributor.
