How about a '98 Honda Civic?

Still searching for a car. Didn't buy the 07 Aveo thanks to the help that I got from my previous question. My parents found a 1998 Honda Civic that they want me to look at. 109k miles, good condition, no rust, non smokers, good tires, ect. Going to last years to come?? That's my question I guess...

My mom had a '98 Civic LX 4-door back when they were new. She had a 3 year lease and was relatively trouble-free. The only problem she had with it was the odometer would quit working every 4,000 - 5,000 miles. She was honest at first and brought it to the dealer's attention every time it happened. But the fix usually only lasted a few hundred miles before breaking again.

This would probably not be considered a mechanical problem per se, however my point is that if this was a common problem, the vehicle you're looking at may have more miles than actually indicated. They made sure to disclose (the dealer had it documented) this issue at lease turn-in, however some people might not be so honest. If the car has unusually low miles, you might want to consider this scenario.

As for me, the Hondas I've owned were all great in terms of reliability. I usually bought most with over 100K miles on them, and all of them (4 total) lasted over 200K.
