What do performance chips do?

Planning on getting one for my 2000 honda civic si, what is a good brand? And will it help with mpg?















how much hp gain should i expect?

No you will get worse gas mileage, it usually increases HP

It depends on what kind of chip you get. You can get chips that are programed to do any number of things. It's sorta like installing a new program on your PC. The most commonly referred to chips either remove/change the speed governor, change/remove the rev limiter and can change things like fuel mixture. You could probably get a chip that could increase mpgs, but it would have the distinct possibility of reducing power (besides, it would be easier and cheaper to change your driving habits). As for the exact power change, that depends on what the chip is programed to do and how much you spend. As with most things, you are most likely to get what you pay for.
