Why is my 1994 Honda Civic EX 2 door Coupe not starting?

Why is my 1994 Honda Civic EX 2 door Coupe not starting?
When I turn the ignition and hold the key in place, the engine cranks up and everything but when I let go, the engine shuts down. The lights and everything work, its just the engine turns off when I let go of the key. I can push on the gas and it revs and stuff.
