93 Del Sol steering boot
During the routine oil change/inspection I was told the left steering
boot is torn and the right one is showing some cracks. Repair estimate
is $340.
Is this something I need to take care of immediately, or can it wait
a while? What bad things will happen if I don't replace them?
Thanks.

It can't wait. The boots contain oil that lubricate the u-joints in
the steering rack. So, unless you want to have to replace the u-joints
as well, get the boots repaired soon.

they're ball joints.
in addition, dirt wrecks the seals that hold the power steering fluid
in. new steering racks are very expensive. talking of which, so is the
repair the op's been quoted. it's not much more than a 20-minute job to
replace one boot, and each boot is only about $10.

indeed.

It's something to fix soon. Dust, mud, rocks, etc. in the steering rack
will chew things up quickly.
If you're not averse to a little manual labor, you can do it yourself in
about an hour per side. Boots for my 92 Accord were about 37 bucks each
at the local Honda stealership a few months ago. I'd guess that yours
will be similarly priced.(?) You DO want Honda OEM, and not some cheap
aftermarket partz. Whoever does the work, you may as well replace both
- if one is gone, the other will check out soon.
