Accords, And Theft Deterrent "Micro-Chip" Key For Engine Start Quest., Please
Hello:
Have a new Accord, and am a bit concerned about theft.
Was wondering how effective the "micro-chip key" that is apparently
required to start the engine "really" is in deterring theft ?
Or, is it mostly a "feel-good" kind of thing ?
If it is effective, how is it that the Accords are about the most stolen
vehicles ?
How is it done then; are they just towed ?
"The Club" steering wheel lock much of a deterrent ?

My Grand Cherokee has the same type of system. When I first got it, the
forgot to program the keys, and I could start it, but not go more then 3
feet without the engine cutting out.
I'm sure a good theif may have a way of getting around it, but it is
probably enough to diffuse ametuers.

Most of the Honda vehicles that are stolen are older vehicles that don't
make use of the newer type keys and many older Honda vehicles such as the
LX models don't even have factory car alarms. I don't believe you will
have to worry about your vehicle being stolen unless you live in or visit
on a regular basis high crime areas. The club works great but most people
that own them don't bother to install them. I have one and rarely ever use
it unless I am on vacation in a city. It takes about 5 minutes to install
or mount and it's a hassle--especially if you or I are in a hurry.
