Air Filter Clean
 

hey all, today i cleaned the air filter on my 98 civic hatchback and it was
pretty dirty, i havent cleaned it for more than a year.

i reved the car abit and i swear it sounded like a different car, it sounded
alot stronger, i drove it abit and could feel it was going better too.

this is a normal cheapo air filter, which is why i was thinking of getting a
KnN Air Filter. Do u think it will let more air into the motor? what are the
benefits of getting it? and how much would it cost in Australian Dollars?

Changing the air filter regularly is always a good idea. You need the air
for the combustion, and a clean air filter will allow more air and also give
you a leaner burn for better milage.

Changing the air filter regularly is always a good idea. You need the air
for the combustion, and a clean air filter will allow more air and also give
you a leaner burn for better milage.

or, you could just run with no filter at all. of course, i clean the oil in
my car and maintain it quite regurarly, so i dont recommend this unless you
do your own matinence. quite a boost on my 2k daewoo with no filter as
opposed to a k&n filter. ever seen a daewoo do the 1/4th in under 15
seconds? kinda ammusing :D

or, you could just run with no filter at all. of course, i clean the oil in
my car and maintain it quite regurarly, so i dont recommend this unless you
do your own matinence. quite a boost on my 2k daewoo with no filter as
opposed to a k&n filter. ever seen a daewoo do the 1/4th in under 15
seconds? kinda ammusing :D

And, if you live ina n area where dust and grit is low, and where humidity
is not high (such as say, the UK) then your opint is moot. In the UK I've
had volvo mechanics reccomend I remove the air filter, as its robbing power
(and that engine's done over 150,000 miles, the last 70 of it without an air
filter, and no problems. However, here in Georgia, I have to run a fine
air-filter, because the air is so dusty (its so dry here that all the grass
has turned brown, and I was FORCED to run my civics AC when last-minute
shopping yesterday), especially as its the rural part. Its so rural out
here, I'm considering jacking UP the civic, so it won't ground out so much.

I don't advise anyone to run their car with no air filter. Various small
particles such as really small pieces of gravel or pavement about could
end up in the cylinders of your vehicle. Those small particles could
damage the walls of the cylinder. That's the reason that ALL car companies
place air filters on their newly made vehicles.

i guess i should have said, i DO have something in there to catch larger and
smaller particles of dust and whatnot, but the miniscule particles that only
an air filter would catch, im not that concerned about. as i stated before,
either i or my stepdad do the matinence (ALL the matinence) on the car, and
if i ever damaged it, i could have it easily repaired. ty for the concern,
but id like to think i know a *little* about what im doing *s*

i guess i should have said, i DO have something in there to catch larger and
smaller particles of dust and whatnot, but the miniscule particles that only
an air filter would catch, im not that concerned about. as i stated before,
either i or my stepdad do the matinence (ALL the matinence) on the car, and
if i ever damaged it, i could have it easily repaired. ty for the concern,
but id like to think i know a *little* about what im doing *s*

i guess i should have said, i DO have something in there to catch larger and
smaller particles of dust and whatnot, but the miniscule particles that only
an air filter would catch, im not that concerned about. as i stated before,

i guess i should have said, i DO have something in there to catch larger and
smaller particles of dust and whatnot, but the miniscule particles that only

oh come on now. If you knew what you were doing you wouldn't be running an
engine without an air filter just to get a performance gain. Sure it's ok
on 1/4 top fuel dragsters and the such since they are only operating for a
few seconds but to get the longevity out of a vehicle the air needs to be as
clean as possible. Even the little particulates need to be prevented from
entering the engine.

oh come on now. If you knew what you were doing you wouldn't be running an
engine without an air filter just to get a performance gain. Sure it's ok
on 1/4 top fuel dragsters and the such since they are only operating for a
few seconds but to get the longevity out of a vehicle the air needs to be as

entering the engine.

oh come on now. If you knew what you were doing you wouldn't be running an
engine without an air filter just to get a performance gain. Sure it's ok
on 1/4 top fuel dragsters and the such since they are only operating for a
few seconds but to get the longevity out of a vehicle the air needs to be as
clean as possible. Even the little particulates need to be prevented from
entering the engine.
