Hi. I've got an 02 Civic LX. Its radio antenna is imbedded in the rear
window. Since I live in a rural area, my FM reception is poor, and it seems
especially so when I'm driving my Honda. I checked with Honda's parts
dept., and they have no booster or add on.
Any suggestions? Is there a relatively easy way to add a real exterior
antenna? Also, might it not be worth the trouble?

you can get fm amplifiers that go in-line with the FM
antenna wire, that should boost your signal some. You can
find it at Radio Shack.

 

Rat Shack no longer sells car radio accessories, like they used to. If the
reception is that bad, I would suggest going with XM radio.

That type of Antenna requires that both sides of antenna
cable (core and shield) make an excellent and electrically
isolated connection to radio. For example, listen to an AM
radio station that is maybe 70 or 100 miles distant. Does
engine noise (actually alternator oscillator) interfere with
AM? IOW when engine is turned off, does noise go away? If
so, the antenna wire (possibily connector to radio) is not
making proper connection. Bad antenna connection means FM
will receive clearly only up to a point - then reception falls
apart.
