Crack in 2003 Honda Windshield
I've been lurking in the news group for several months and have found out
many useful facts and tips. I'm putting this question on the news group as
I recall seeing several posts regarding problems with Accord windshields
cracking.
We have a 2003 Accord EX-L that we took delivery of a month ago. Tonight,
leaving work, my wife went out to the car and found an unusual crack
starting at the upper edge of the windshield on the driver's side. The
crack is in a "s" or "z" pattern and extends not quite half way down the
glass. She had used the car at lunch time and said it was OK then.
She parks in a restricted employee lot and wasn't parked near any building
or the highway overpass. There was no sign of any stone or other projectile
on the car or down in the plenum area of the windshield.
Has anybody had the same or a similar experience? Was it covered by Honda's
warranty?
Thanks
Bill Lav

If there's no impact damage, it should be covered. Of course, the quality
of your dealer determines whether they will try and weasel out of it.

FWIW, I had a similar problem with my Porsche 911 when it hit its first
winter, but the crack started immediately above a defroster vent.
Porsche decided it was a faulty windshield and replaced it under
warranty (no further problems).
If there's no sign of a rock impact or anything else like that, I'd
certainly approach Honda with the assumption it's a warranty issue.

For a trivial extra cost, we have complete glass coverage in our
insurance policy. This would be replaced at no cost by the insurance
even if Honda were to balk. Might check on yours, you may have such
coverage.

Re: Crack in 2003 Honda Windshield
I have lost 2 windshields in 10 mos on an 02 Civic Si. Dealer blew me off,
Honda customer service also unresponsive.
Very minor stone impacts were seen on the glass, however the cracks occurred
while the car was not moving and instantly started out 1 foot long.
Curvature seen, and cracks started at or near the edge of the windshield.
My 3rd windshield has now been in the car for about a month and shows 2-3
areas of extreme warpage. If I lose a 3rd one I will probably go after
Honda in court.
Let us know how you make out.

Re: Crack in 2003 Honda Windshield
You can blame some of the cracks on the modern flex-mobile design of the
current crop of econonboxes.

Yeah, and then the insurance company raises your rates because you
made a claim and cost them something...the bloodsuckers.
