Engine question
 

I own an 88 civic Hatchback. It is the STD model apparently. Because it's
not the dx or any other. Now, it's got the D15B2. On the other hand, the DX,
which makes 92 hp aprox, has the same engine. But I have read that there was
a more economic version of this engine, which is the one I have. Is this
true? If it's the same engine, how can it have different horsepower rating?
The manual states the exactly the same bore x stroke specs, as well as the
others, as all the other models (excluting the VTEC). I've found that my
version of this engine has about 70 hp, but I don't know who to believe.
Help would be appreciated, thanks.

There were at least three different varieties of the 1.5 l engine that
year, the 92 hp (D15B2), a 70 hp (D15B1) and a super fuel efficient 62
hp (D15B6) variety that got 56 mpg in the CRX HF (which is quite a bit
better than what Civic Hybrid gets today). http://tinyurl.com/2drl9

here is another sight with honda engine specs i find a little easier to
navigate http://www.geocities.com/honda_club_egypt/engines.htm , as for
which engine u have, just go by the code on the block, honda usually
has a differant code for every engine even if the block is the same.
the differance in horsepower will be in the head design and fuel
management system, as well the pistons would either be higher or lower
compression, so the engine would have the same displacemnt.

The DX has the D15B2 with 92 hp, not the STD. I have the STD, but with the
D15B2; how can this be?

Perhaps it blew a head gasket or broke a timing belt and someone just
replaced the whole engine.
