Sean,
Bear in mind that fluid levels don't tell the whole story. For instance,
if you 'top up' the reservoir, but there's already air in the line, it
will still have to be bled to cure the problem. A spongy feeling pedal
and grinding shifts will persist until you eliminate the air. Rarely
does the air bubble come back out for you. :-(
