I just noticed that I have a paint defect on my 04 Accord coupe.
Right where the rear quarter panel meets the tailight, the paint is
cracked at the corner of the sheetmetal, and is lifting. Take a look
at yours to be sure. This kinda pisses me off because a new car
shouldn't need any repainting. At least it's under warranty.

 

Every so often cars get damaged during shipping. If the dealer notices,
he has the car repaired and does not tell you about it. Perhaps this is
shipping damage that was not discoverd (or poorly repaired)?

That would **** me off too , you've got to examine a new car just as closely
as you would a used one.

Thanks for the idea. I'm going to take a peek behind my tailights if it's easy.

Where was the car built? In relation to the shipping damage already
mentioned, some shippers, especially for imports, have their own patch-job
shops and they umm, do lousy work. A dealer once tried to palm off a new
German built VW on me which had dents in the hood, like a baseball had
bounced down it, and a very poor filler/paint job on the front fender.
Luckily I caught it before handing over the cheque.

If the "repair" to yours is poorly done, you might want to insist it be
redone properly, under warranty, by a shop you trust.

It was built in Marysville, and the dealer is quite reputable. In
relation to where I bought the car, Marysville is only several hours
away.
Does anyone know how exactly to get the tail light out so I can take a
look at the other side of the quarter panel? I haven't even looked at
it yet. It's an 04 accord coupe.

 

In almost every car built, the tail lamp is held to the body with nuts
and bolts that are accessible in the trunk. May have to remove some of
the inner trunk trim. bob
