How much should I pay for this 2010 Honda?

I am buying it for my nephew. I will be buying the car in Georgia.

I tried to use Honda's web page to get a listing of the car, but the
options don't match. The car has a rear spoiler, but the option on
the window calls it "appearance package" The price is not the same.

I also didn't see the Theft protection or Nitrogen package listed as
an option on the web site.

"Nitrogen package"??? What a hoot!

Sure looks like that dealer is adding lots of his own little frills and
doohickeys to that car quite independently of what the car came with when
he bought it from Honda.

I'd stay away from that dealer if I were you.

The car is brand new. It is still on the Honda lot. No pre owned.
The car has 5 miles on it.

It's NOT on the "Honda" lot. It's on the DEALER's lot. Honda does not
own or operate any dealerships. The dealer bought that car from
American Honda and is re-selling it to you. The dealer is NOT "Honda",
they just own a franchise license from American Honda. They are an
independent company.

The law recognizes sales from automaker to dealer as not actually being
a "sale" for the purposes of the definition of a "used car". A vehicle
only becomes a "used car" once the dealer sells it to you. Even if that
car ends up being sold from one dealer to another for a while, it's
still a "new" car because it never got sold outside of the dealer/Honda
network.

Since the dealer is NOT "Honda", he can do anything he likes to the car.
If you see stuff being advertised by the dealer that you can't find on
Honda's website, then that stuff is just puffery the dealer has added to
the car so he can try and pad his margins. Beware!

Is the nitrogen package the air in the tires?

Only if they appear on American Honda's website.

However, some options /are/ from Honda, but are dealer-installed (rear
mud flaps are one famous example). Those will be listed as official
options in the sales brochure and on the Honda website.

Remember, the dealer owns that car and is free to put whatever on
it that he thinks he can make money from. You really have to watch for
that sort of thing.

Bingo! If it doesn't appear in the Honda literature for the car, or
on the Honda website, it is NOT a factory option. The dealer is
adding crap to jack up his margin. "Nitrogen Package"? What a joke.

Rephrase for clarification: Options are only "factory" if they appear on
Honda's website.

The quoted paragraph below is OK as-is:

I don't understand the question. The item you posted says "dealer-added
equipment and services". If they are dealer added then they are not
factory installed. That should seem quite clear.

One thing you should understand about Honda. Accessories are not installed
at the factory. Anything listed as factory accessories in the Honda
brochures or on the web site are still installed by Honda dealers either
prior to or after the sale. The question here is more about separating
"real" Honda options from additional dealer added fluff like a "nitrogen"
package. The solution is to simply refuse to pay it & they normally back
down.

Metspitzer has shown that he/she is somewhat disadvantaged as a car
shopper. Nothing that a bit of education cannot cure however.

All else aside, if one checks into the nitrogen thing, I think they will
find it to be pretty much of a scam. Even so, I found places that will
"Nitrogenize" your tire for ~ $3.00 each AND provide you with lifetime
refills. ASSUMING that Honda dealer will actually completely evacuate
the air in all four tires and the compact spare, you could have the same
thing done on your own for $15.00 rather than pay the dealer $196.00.

What, other than you should run away from this dealership, does that
tell you Metspitzer?

E. Meyer is right (and so, for that fact, was Nancy Reagan), JUST SAY NO!

Go to Edmunds.com, Consumer Reports, etc. and ascertain the dealer
cost/markup on the car and shoot them a fair offer. You don't have to
steal the car from them but you should never pay sticker. EVER! If you
want to have fun, tell them you appreciate their attempt to improve on
Honda's excellent design by adding all that dealer add-on crap but you
have no intention of paying for it. Let them know they can either
remove it, sell you a car without it installed, or give it to you for
free. Tell them you'll walk and be prepared to do so if they will not
agree to this.

Shop the dealership at the end of the month. Walk in prepared to make
the purchase ON YOUR TERMS Monday the 30th. I'm told by people that
were in the business that the end of the month is generally the 11th
hour for the sales force. This month's sales figures will often set the
floor time for next month, bonuses, etc. Use it to your advantage.

One last thing that will often save you money. It never hurts to cut
your best deal with them while letting them believe that you will
finance the car through them. Once the deal is cut and you're sure the
price on the CAR is what you want and that there is no penalty for
pre-payment, go ahead and do the deal. Drive your new car off the lot
and cut a check (or get a loan at a better rate)for the amount of the
car and pay off the loan before the first payment is due. Again, make
sure that any rebates figured into the price of the car are not affected
by this. Many dealerships will cut the price of the car to the bone as
they are eying either profits from the loan or a kickback from the loan
when they sell the paper.

They know they are hosing you when they do it, so why should you have
any sympathy for them when you turn the tables and do what you promised
you'd do, i.e. pay the loan off - just do it 48 or 60 months ahead of
schedule<g>
