Low Gas Warning
Hello folks,
I just bought a 2003 Civic Coupe and I was wondering (since it didn't mention it in the manual): When the low fuel light comes on in the instrument panel, how much gas is left? 1 gallon? 2 gallons? Less? All intelligent replies welcome. Thx in advance, Alias ==== |

Re: Low Gas Warning
The fuel tank capacity is listed in the owners manual. The
actual capacity is generally three or four gallons more than the fuel gauge will indicate. ;) mike hunt Alias wrote: > > > Well, you know what your fuel tank capacity is. Re: Low Gas Warning
You'll never get an accurate number since the fuel gauge on most cars is
anything but accurate. I used to own a 2001 Civic Coupe. If my memory is good, when the light was coming on, I was able to put 15 liters less than the max fuel capacity, which comes to something between 3 to 4 galons. It does come on early. I have a 2002 CR-V and it's the same thing. When the light comes on on my 2002 civic sedan (13 gal tank) there is about
3 gallons still in the tank. Its not in there. Check your own owners manual and tell us all how many gallons of fuel remain in the tank when the low fuel warning light comes on. The original poster stated twice that it was not listed, but apparently everyone wants to pontificate rather than actually look. Here is the wording in my owner's manual about the low fuel warning: "This light comes on when the fuel in the tank is getting low. Refuel as soon as it is convenient, preferably before the fuel gauge reaches E. There will be a small reserve of fuel remaining in the tank when the fuel gauge needle reached E." Now tell me - how many gallons is a "small amount" and how many gallons is "getting low"? (Experience with this particular car indicates that "Getting low" is roughly 3.5 gallons. I don't know how many "small amount" is because I haven't been willing to run it dry and find out.) |

I apologize for my initial response, it was based as I stated above in Manuals of previous Hondas that I have owned. It used to be approximately nine litres (if my memory serves me well). More than enough to get to a gas station sixty miles away or more. -- Brian www.accesswave.ca/~orion |

With the tank capacity from the manual, and the amount required to fill the tank once the light comes on, he knows everything that's necessary to answer his question.
