For Psychic Wednesday - odors & other phantasms
Since it is Wednesday, I predict someone has already answered this. It's
not causing any problems - i'm just curious.
94 civic EX - right after starting when cold, I often smell gas in cabin -
for maybe 10 sec or so. It doesn't happen on warm starts, or when driving.
Also can't detect it if hood is open. I don't see any signs or odors of
fuel under hood or under car. The check valve may be leaking a bit - since
engine starts quicker if I turn IG on for a sec or 2 before cranking, but
this should drain back to fuel tank, and not cause odor.
Another thing that may or may not be related. When I wind engine up
driving - before it is fully warmed up, i get a smell sortof like oil
burning off a manifold - no = smoke - just the smell. again - can't
duplicate when warmed up - & don't see anything under hood.
Checked PCV valve - it's working right. No exhaust leaks detected. Curious
as to why these smells are in cabin.

Running a little fat at cold idle, maybe?

On a '94 the first thing I would check would be any crunchy old hoses
in the fuel system. I have experienced something like this with
failing hose around the filter and in the hose running from the end of
the lines to the engine on cars about this old.
