Stubby Honda Antenna: Do they work well?
Hi there
Quick question for those of you who actually have a short, stubby
antenna (as those seen on the MDX and the Civic SI (or SiR in
Canada). Do they work well? No static or anything in FM
reception? Thanks!

They work pretty well, they are amplified.

The antenna is for a Sat/Nav system and really has nothing to do with the
AM/FM stereo system. The Radio antenna is in the back window.

Oh, thanks. I did not know that. But surely, the civic does not
have navi or sat? All late model Si (SiR) has this little
antenna...

Could be Satellite Radio. They are really small.

Re: Stubby Honda Antenna: Do they work well?
The advantage of FM over AM is that FM does not have static....

Re: Stubby Honda Antenna: Do they work well?
No, but a weak stereo signal will have audio "snow" or hiss.

To be excruciatingly technical, "static" usually means interference on an AM
signal. The FM has hiss because the receiver generates more noise than the
atmospheric noise level. A quality preamplifier will help hiss, but only
proper antenna grounding and suppression of noise sources will help static.
