What to do with crashed car?
Hey guys,
Monday night I got myself involved in an accident that left my car useless.
I got hit in the front right corner of my '92 Civic DX sedan. It had 130K
miles on it and it ran perfect. Interior was perfect, the car was great. It
was my first car ever to own too and I loved it to death, almost that is....
What suggestions would you guys give as to what to do with it? I'm thinking
just sell it to a junk yard. My brother says sell it in parts. The engine
is pretty much intact and the other side, as well as the seats of the
interior are in great conditions. I'm in the Houston area in Texas. Any
comments???
Dave

A junkyard will only give you $50 for it (in Toronto). You can get that
much by selling the wheels alone. If you really can't fix it, sell it by
parts on Ebay.

Dave,
If you live on an acreage / farm, parting it out might be great, but
beware if you live in a city, because bylaws could give your neighbors /
landlord the privelege of making you tow your mess out of their sight .
.. . pilfering could also be a concern. (experience)

Re: What to do with crashed car?
If it is not too bad, you can take off the fenders
and such, cut the front off another car (I mean just
the crashed part not cut the car in two), cut the same
size thing off a wrecked car, and weld it back on.
This is actually easier than it sounds, but it is some work.
If the unibody was not bent, its doable, and not that
expensive because used parts for a 92 are not that much.
It is very difficult to part out an older car. because
there is much less a demand. The junk yard will
not give you much money at all.
It is likely that you wont get much. But what you do is
this if you part it out: put 5 small parts on ebay.
In your description say 'i am parting out a 82 DX,
contact me for other parts you might need'.
That way you dont have to put a zillion parts on ebay

Re: What to do with crashed car?
Part out the car if you have the space. Put up a free ad in
www.thepartstrader.com eBay takes too long and you'll get twice the value
for the parts than through an auction.
