2000 Accent GS transmission problem
Does anyone know why my transmission keeps slipping out of 5th gear?
I’m driving down the road doing about 60 and after awhile the shifter
starts to move back to center. If I let off of the gas it goes into
neutral and have to reshift back into 5th. This is the only gear it
does it with and hopefully it is not leading up to a more serious
problem.

Re: 2000 Accent GS transmission problem
Hi..
We had this problem on my wife's car as well (2000Accent GS). It had
something to do with the "detent" for the mechanism that held the shift
lever in-place being missing on some transmissions. We took it to Hyundai
and they said nothing wrong and then it did it again so I insisted they do
something about it. Ended-up being a TSB about it and they had to replace
the back half of the transmission because that little detent was missing in
the casting. This is a FACTORY DEFECT.
Stay on them, their IS a problem on a few of these. If you need any more
info, let me know and I'll dig out the service records.

If it’s not too much trouble for you I would like to see them. Plus
do you happen to know what TSB number it is so I could read more about
the problem. Thanks.

The site is operated by HMA, so only US TSBs are listed there.

Snoopy is posting from Canada...so it's gotta be a Canadian TSB.
They have a separate tech support operations there and issue their own
TSBs.
You're not gonna find them on www.hmaservice.com, which is a US web
site.

Well it doesn’t matter anymore. Took it to the dealership and
replaced with new transmission for free.
