2000 Hyundai Accent
My Hyundai is experiencing transmission problems. When I come to a stop the
car buckles and it doesn't seem to shift right on the highway. It has
75,000 miles. THe transmission fluid was never changed , however , i also
kept an eye on it . It is full and never short. My dealer is telling me
that i am responsible for any repairs for the transmission work since i
did not have the fluid changed at 15,000 and 30,000 miles.Hyundai has
100,000 warranty on its warranty. My mechancic has told me that once you
start changing your transmission fluid you begin to have transmission
problems. I need some guidance in dealing with the car dealer. This is
the first problem I had with the car. Can the dealer hold me responsible
for not changing the fluid? Are Hyundai Accents known to have a poor
track as it pertains to transmission problems? Thank you so much for your
help!

Check your mannual, The owners guide for my 2002 accent states that the
transmission fluid is not required to be changed until 100k. It also
states this online. If your mannual states this, show it to the dealer. if
they still say no call another dealer and the hyundai company. But they
will want to make sure that you go tthe 60 k required maintence done,

Take it a step further. Ask the dealer to show you where an official
Hyundai Motor America document (not the dealer's) says that you need to
change your transmission fluid every 30,000 miles.
I think it's a good idea to change your ATF every 30k whether recommended
by the manufacturer or not. But that doesn't mean it's required if they
don't put it in the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual. Some
mechanics advise not changing the fluid if you have many miles on your
vehicle without changing the fluid, but changing the fluid regularly every
30k miles will not have an adverse effect on the transmission.
I've not known the transmission in the 2000 Accent to be particularly
troublesome. I've replaced some, but not a disproportionate number.
