2002 Sonata GLS V6 Tuneup
 

Hi all! Can anyone provide information or direct me to site(beside webtech)
that details spark plug removal and replacement on above car?

i think u have to remove the air intake plenum on back of engine to get to
rear plugs, and if u do replace, put ngk platniums inplace.., id leave it to
a shop if my choice....

Hi: Well I did the tuneup on my 2.7V6 Sonata today...no big deal at
all..just did my research so that I knew what I had to do and proceeded
without any problem. I used my ratchet with long extension to get the plugs
and used the proper plug socket with the rubber insert in it. Now my car
sounds so smooth and quiet and I saved a bundle. Took me two and a half
hours because it was my first time doing this car. On a difficulty scale of
1 to 10 I rate it a five or six. I aso changed the PCV valve and air filter.
The fuel filter is integral with the fuel pump assembly inside the fuel tank
in this year car. I previously did the front disc brakes which was so
easy..took one hour.... I may not do the timing chain because this is an
interference engine and if something happens to the belt down the road I do
not want Hyundai to say that I did not install the belt properly. Still
thinking about it though. Stanley

Although I can't speak specifically about the Sonata, timing belts (no
one uses chains anymore) are pretty easy to do. The biggest time
consumer is removing all the covers and such to get to them, then
replacing it all after changing the belt. That's why it's a relatively
expensive job to have done. I did the belt on my old Excel and IIRC, it
took me a couple of hours. When my Elantra needs it, I'll do it myself.

BTW, I spoke with Hyundai regarding this before I did the job. Just keep
the receipt for the belt and you're covered under warranty.
