2002 Sonata Throttle Cable
Yet another question:
When I step on the gas pedal, I feel more than a little
resistance. Usually, I have to push hard with my foot, which
leads to "jackrabbit" starts after which I have to back off the
accelerator. If I try to hold a fast idle with the car stopped,
say 2000 RPM, it's almost impossible.
The throttle plate and cable seem to move freely. Many auto
manuals tell you not to lubricate the throttle cable.
Any suggestions on what the problem might be and how to solve
it, before I get busy with, say, lock-ease?

It may not be the cable, but other parts of the linkage. Check that they
are not loose, worn, binding, jammed, or otherwise causing your problem.

Re: 2002 Sonata Throttle Cable
Check to see whether the cable housing is kinked anywhere.
Also, after letting the car sit overnight, open the hood and try to open
the throttle using the lever on the throttle body. The plate may be
sticking. This tends to occur more after the vehicle sits awhile.
