2006 Elantra broken lug
How big a job is it to replace a broken lug that the guys at the tire shop
broke off when we were getting our studded snows put on? It is on the front
drivers side. Will a matching lugnut have to be ordered ? Thanks for any
help....

Any competent tire mechanic should do it in a few minutes.
Make sure they replace it with same size lug nuts as the others
on the wheel, or else you may have trouble replacing a flat.

Why wouldn't the tire shop replace it since they broke it off? It's really
pretty easy to replace a stud most times. That said - there can be those
times when nothing but a big press will push the old one out and the new
one in. I'd go back at the tire shop and make them replace it.
How did the damage occur? Taking the old wheel off, or putting the new
wheel on?

They broke it taking the old wheel off. It was put on cross threaded. I was
watching and they tried everything to get it off without breaking it but to
no avail.. I THINK the Hyundia dealership was the last ones to have the
wheels off for a rotation...Not sure, really...Probably could never prove
it..Nor could I prove that I didn't do it which is probably what they would
say... Not a hill worth fighting for at this point...Do you know if the
lugnut that matches the ones on the car will have to be ordered from Hyundia
or will the shop be able to get it from NAPA? I'll be taking it in Mon. or
Tue. SWMBO insists it must match PERFECTLY..It is HER car..LOL...

Understand. I don't know if an aftermarket lugnut will be a perfect match
- one that will satisfy the discerning woman in your life. They're cheap
enough - I'd probably get one for the dealer or from the junk yard. Pefect
match that way.

If the lug is broken, the nut should still be OK. Can't speak for that
model, but on most cars it is a rather simple job to replace a lug.
You should also talk to the service manager about how they handle the (air)
wrenches.
