99 Accent in snow
Hi
I am thinking of buying 99 accent 60K and sticksshift on it. I live at
a place where snow fall will happen pretty heavily and I have never
driven in snow. To make the matters interesting, the car has no power
steering. Can anyone tell me if its a good or a bad idea to buy a car
w/o power steering for winter.

Re: 99 Accent in snow
we have a 1999 accent too with manual stearing, not really any difference
except u get a better feel for the road, corners etc which is a good thing.
just buy '4' not 2 winter tires...

nokians i think are the best tye for winter driving....
hence all the snow in finland etc...
hey, im finn also =)
we have blizzak ws 50's and i dont like how they make the car very twitchy..
id look into another ice tyre, nokian, yokohama etc....
but if u live somehwere where u can stud your tyres, do it.. get the winter
tyres prepped for studding instead of a ice tyre....

Re: 99 Accent in snow
what ever u do, when ur driving in deep slush, rutted roads, donot over
react to the stearing wheel input, u feel the road more because u dont have
the numbing effect of the power stearing to dull it out.
youll get used to the tugging feeling.

My Excel was one of the best snow cars I've owned. Manual transmissions
and steering provide more control and a better feel in slippery
conditions. Put a set of four snow tires on the Accent and you'll have
the ideal winter driving setup.

Re: 99 Accent in snow
I had a 1990 Geo Metro, that just was about 1600 lbs
and with R12 tires, it did great with snow here in Wisconsin.. My 1996
Accent does good.
