Computer box setup, 2000 elantra, automatic
Is it possible to change the parameter on the engines computer to have
better fuel millage? I find that its not very good on fuel even after
50000km. Also, can the geardown of the automatic transmision be adjusted?
I find that it does not drop to first gear fast enough and if i dont do a
FULL stop, it stays on second gear and i have to give quite a bit of gas to
move on, also possibly my problem of gas mileage.
thank you for the information anyone can give me. :-)

The answer is yes and no. Yes, the parameters can be programmed, but no
you can't do it yourself. If you haven't done it in a while, resetting
the ECU will sometimes improve engine performance a bit. It clears the
memory and the computer readjusts based on sensor inputs. All you have
to do is disconnect the battery for 30 seconds or so. You'll have to
reprogram your radio stations afterward, but it's probably worth a try.
