Design Input : sonata 03 gas cap doesn't work properly in winter
It doesn't rotate as it freezed between the rotating parts.I tries to
fix it for 2-3 minutes in freezing temp 10 deg. I had to break it
from fuel door to tighten the gas cap. Very bad design. They could
have put a bendable plastic or string to the center of the cap.
Because the function is not to loose gas cap accidently.

It's not just the cold and the Sonata. I broke the one on my 03 Elantra
the second time I put gas into it, nice +80F day too.

Interesting, I'm going to have to keep an eye on mine. I really like
the design so I hope it does't break.

Same problem here in frozen Ottawa, Canada. It seems to happen most when
we have a warm day then a cold night. I might try spraying a bit of WD40
around the area where the rotating ring is. That should help to displace
the moisture that gathers.

Bad idea with the WD-40-----oil and most natural and synthetic rubbers do
not mix well with hydrocarbons or fluorocarbons.
Try using a little bit of alcohol---alcohol absorbs waters and also prevents
freezing--and won't harm the rubber gasket---

The WD in this silicon product stands for water displacement. it was
originally designed to protect electrical connections and stuff, or so I am
told.

Re: Design Input : sonata 03 gas cap doesn't work properly in winter
seen that many times, try lubing the strap around the cap with silicone
spray
