Elantra 1992: removing the right drive shaft
I have not yet been able to pry the right drive shaft out of the
transaxle case. Looking at the smallness of the retainer ring, I
think it should be easy.
Is there a trick I am missing? I follow the instructions in the Shop
Manual.
Should the pry bar be vertically under the drive shaft? Is a long pry
bar required? I am working the my driveway so I do not have a lift.
Is a very strong force required?
Thank you very much for all your suggestions.

Sometimes the driveshafts will not come out easily. You'll want to have
the pry bar between the transmission differential housing and the joint,
if you're not doing that already. The only thing I can suggest if this is
not working is a bigger pry bar.
I've actually done a couple transmission replacements where I never was
able to remove the driveshaft from the transmission. I eventually took
the inner joint apart and sent the inner joint back with the old
transmission, putting a new inner joint on the vehicle.
