I don't see why not. Kia is a Hyundai company and their cars are
almost identical to Hyundai vehicles.

First of all, no repair facility needs any authorization from any car
manuafcturer to work on any vehicle. There's nothing stopping them to work on
your car and charge you for the work done on your car if you ask them to do
it.. If you're asking about the Hyundai warranty in the U.S., No Kia dealer
will get reimbursed on any work done on a Hyundai from HMA or the factory.

Well apart from turf wars (A Hyundai dealer would prefer to keep its service
staff earning income, as it has to have a service centre for hyundai cars or
else it cant be a dealer !) the KIA service centre would have to have all
the tools, books , materials and training for dealing with Hyundai
vehicles...Similar but not the same...Ownership probably isnt 100% owned by
Hyundai Motor Vehicles. KIA Motor Vehicles USA or KIA Australia might not
be 100% owned by KIA korea... you get the idea.

Jason please.......nooooo...... have you read the Kia newsgroup? My isp
doesn't get it but I read the archives through google. These cars are not up
to the quality of Hyundai yet.....not even the much-maligned Hyundai of the
80's!
If they really are "almost identical to Hyundais" that is a scary thing.

No, I don't read the Kia groups. Still, Kia vehicles are basically
identical to Hyundai vehicles. There are a few body panels that are
different but the parts under the hood are identical.

That has got to be complete BS.

Something like computers ?

Consider a dell laptop and a toshiba laptop

both might use

The same cpu
The same chipset - including IO, battery controller, display controller, the
same ram, battery, dvd drive, ram,etc.
But you still wouldn't expect to get Toshiba warranty at Dell or vica versa.

That wouldnt change if one owned (even just a majority of) the other.

Hp own Compaq and hence Digital brandnames. Digital has gone, but the Compaq
brand name remains. Thats up to HP.

Of course, with computers the call centre and service centre for such
conjoined brands is likely to be the same place.

But with cars, the brand names are often in different car yards.

But you could call the up the local KIA service centre and ask them.
They might be Hyundai warranty repairers still...
There are a number of reasons they don't do Hyundai sales but could still
be a Hyundai warranty repairer....

Of course it is. Smaller Kia enginers are Mazda, larger ones are Mitsu,
and now Kia are making Kia..

But even if the kia's were badge engineered Hyundai, it doesnt make sense to
assume you should be able to get warranty work for one at the others
warranty service centre.

The reason you would get brand X warranty done at a brand Y dealership
service centre is because the service centre also had contracts to do work
for brand X dealerships, or other supply of work (like 2nd hand car
dealers).

No, it's not.

Rio=Accent
- Both use the same 1.6L I4 "Alpha" engine.

Spectra=Elantra
- Both use the same 2.0L I4 "Beta II" engine.

Optima=Sonata
- Both use the same 2.4L I4 "Sirius II" and 2.7L V6 "Delta" engine.

Amanti=XG350
- Both use the same 3.5L V6 "Sigma" engine.

In addition to the shared engines, why don't you try taking a look
under your hood. I've dug around under mine (and pulled half of the
components out. Most of my belts are labeled with the "Kia" logo,
half a dozen other parts are also labeled as "Hyundai/Kia".

The vehicle pairs come with basically the same features and offer the
same options.

The engine used in the Getz, Matrix, Accent, and Rio are all "Alpha"
engines. The Accent and Matrix are 1599 cc where as the Getz and Rio
are only 1594 cc. The 5 cc difference is made up from the slight
difference in the piston crown.

I'm not sure on this one. The displacement is a couple cc different
but that can easily be made up with different pistons as with the
Alpha. I'll look into it.

A 2003 Sonata LX and a 2002 XG350L (a replacement for the 2001 XG300).
