Silicone is actually good for rubber, but it's not a particularly
effective lubricant. Neither is WD40. There are many spray and liquid
lubes on the market. Plain ol' engine oil will work, but tends to
attract dirt. LPS spray lubes are good. Boeshield is good and is more
moisture resistant than most lubes. I've starting experimenting with
CorrosionX recently and I'm pleased with the results so far.

Personally I use the Wal-mart store brand stuff. Look for "Super Tech
Penetrating lube", last time I got it I think it was 97 cents.
Just an FYI - Buy your oil filters there as well. Super Tech filters
are identical to the ones that say STP(available at Autozone),
Deutsch(autozone store brand) and Bosch(also available at autozone).
The best part is the price, the filters at wal-mart are only a couple
bucks.
Infact, if you go down to autozone and look at their really expensive
Bosch filters next to a supertech filter(same application) from wally
you'll see that they are the exact same filter.
