Thanks for the info. "2003 Power Distribution", the "2002 Charging system",
and the "2002 Starting System" schematics. Now that I know that the letters
are the color codes, it should make it easier. Here are some of the other
letter's I've seen in the diagrams. Can you confirm my guesses:
O - Orange?
Lg/B Light green & Black?
Br - Brown?
W - White?
Also, just out of curiousity, do the numbers in front of the color code
indicate some kind of wire size code? On several of the diagrams I see
designations like "3.0L", "2.0Lg/B", ".85R", etc.
One more question about the schematics. On the drawings (specifically the
2003 Power Dist), the diagram for the ignition switch shows a standard
rotary switch symbol. It has an arrow from the common point, and an arc
with dots to show the different positions (Lock, Acc, On, Start). On some
of the diagrams there's also a thick line that almost looks hand drawn,
going from one of the positions over toward the next point on the arc. Is
that showing that the circuit is live at both points?
Am I correct that the "immobilzer" was the system that looked for a specific
code chip in the key, and won't start without it? As I understand it, the
bypass module would use a spare key (with the chip) to feed to the computer
module so that it would think the key is in the ignition.
I think the statement that the immobilizer "wasn't used on Santa Fes in the
U.S." is probably the "key" (no pun intended) to why the remote starter web
site says I need one on the 2003. Maybe DesignTech made the assumption that
if they're used anywhere on the 2003 models, DesignTech's web site would
show it as necessary.
I'm off work next week, and the temprature is up to a balmy 40F, so I'll
probably work on it sometime after Christmas. This way I should have it
installed before the January freeze..
Thanks again for all your assistance. Sorry about the length of this post.

Re: Questions about installing remote starter in 2003 Santa Fe.
I think all your wire colors are correct. And the numbers do indeed
represent wire sizes, with larger numbers representing larger wires.
The thick arc usually goes through the points, making things clear, but I
think you're correct. I believe that if the arc is over or on a
particular point, it represents a closed contact in the switch. I think
it's possible there may have been some sort of weird error in drawing the
schematic to make the arc come up over top of the contact points you see.
If there's any doubt, you can, knowing which wires feed power to the
switch, take a test light and see which ones are hot in which positions,
verifying what the schematic means.
And yes, Immobilizer is the system that looks for the chip in the key.

Thank you for all the information. I'm planning on working on this later
this week, probably Thursday or Friday.
My plan all along was going to start by probing with a multimeter while
trying the different positions on the ignition switch. I'm just trying to
get as much info as possible before starting.
Even if I knew all the documentation by heart, I've worked in the computer
and electronics field long enough to not trust the documentation 100%. It
doesn't always match the real thing.

Tomorrow (1/2) is the day to do the install, I think with the information
you've provided, plus what I found on the web, that I'm ready.
I found out why I can't get some of the drawings on HMAService. I needed
the Adobe SVG viewer installed. I was doing some more searching and on the
TwoSpirits Santa Fe mod forums, I found some information about using the
HMAService site. It mentioned the SVG viewer. I installed it and all the
drawings come up fine now. It makes sense why the most of the older
drawings work; they probably started using SVG around 2003.

Duh.. I could also have looked on the "site requirements" on HMAService.
Right there, it says you need the SVG viewer..
