Santa FE
I have a 2003 Santa Fe. It's a great vehicle but for one little thing ...I
noticed corrosion (rust) around all four of the brake drums. I called the
dealer and said that a 5 month old vehicle shouldn't have any corrosion on
it. He said it was normal. What's up with that? Is rust normal on a new
car?

Re: Santa FE
Do you mean on the rotors? They don't have brake drums on the 2004 that my
wife got, they are disc brakes. Yes rust on those surfaces is normal. The
pads touch those surfaces when they act to slow down the car, leaving that
metal exposed to corrosive elements. The surface rust is gone the first
time you apply the brakes. Or you can upgrade for lots of $$$$ and get some
kind of alloy rotors that don't get that surface rust and give you the peace
of mind you obviously deserve..

Yes, it's normal for the hubs to rust. In the 'old days' when
almost all wheels were solid, you coouldn't look in and see the
rust.
If it bothers you that much, paint them or buy covers that
go inside the wheels and block the view.

My Sonata had the same thing,I only noticed it when i installed alloy
wheels, I scrubbed mine with a stiff brush to remove the rust ( It was just
surface rust)
I then painted them with Black Hi temp caliper paint, they look great now

You painted the middle of the rotor? Did you also paint the calipers?
I'm thinking of powder-coating mine to a nice shiny black. The stock
wheels on my LX don't really show off the rotors and calipers but I'm
going to toss Winter tires on the 16" wheels that I've got now and
then pickup some 17-18" wheels for summer use when this set of tires
wears out (I guessing that will happen just in time for next winter's
first snow).

Yes I painted the middle of the rotor (where the wheels bolts on)
If you spray paint you get a nice shiny finish.
I painted the calipers as well (Red colour on those)
Job cost me about AUD$40 in materials, and a fair amount of time.
I brush painted the calipers without removing them and they turned out as
good as i hoped.
The wheels look like this (you may need to cut and paste the link)

Do you have any pictures of the finished product on your car
(preferably with and without the wheels installed)? I'd like to see
how it looks.
