Usually I will change the oil and fill up the tank with gas and add some fuel stabilizer to it and run my bike for 5 - 10 minutes. Also it is a good idea to hook up you battery to a tender. Cover it up and let it sit in your garage. If you are lucky enough to get a nice day during the winter take it out for a little ride.

I have a Honda VTX 1300C so i also follow my manufactures specs to a certain degree.

if you mean to store it get the wheels onto carpet /cardboard ,wood etc, take each plug out drop a teaspoon of oil in each cylinder and turn over a few times to get the oil everywhere do this with the plugs out don;t start it justa few turn overs, either drain the gas tank and then take and spray inside with wd 40 i personally top mine right up take out the battery store in the house on the workshop table not on concrete flooring and also add a charge once a month to stop the battery from sulphating, cover it up allow it to breath

thats all i can think of right now good luck

You got a lot of good answers here, but to the degree you have to follow them all depends on where you live.

Example: The oil in the plugs is good if you know you are not gonna take it out until next spring.

I live in NY and figure that I may get out sometime before May so I change the oil, wash and wax it, fill it up, put in fuel stabilizer, hook up a battery tender, put it up on stands in the corner of the garage, and cover it. When I nice day comes it is only a few minutes to get it ready.
