hes 16 remeber insurance will rape you. 250cc are fairly reliable and cheap too. just dont expect much in the ways of speed but they handle very well.

being so young your going to get owned on insurance unless you were able to go under your parents insurance. i would say youd be better off with a sport/touring bike to begin with just to keep insurance down even tho a 250 is small and slow insurance in this country is a joke somehow my friend was 17 and got a quote on a stock 250 and they wanted 7400 he then got a quote from the same company for an 01 cbr600f4i which was faster than our other friends 04 cbr600rr and he only paid 2300 so get a few bikes in mind and go to a few different insurance companies before your make a decision

it pays to shop around especially insurance
get a decent broker to look for you
Ninja 250 is a good bike and highway worthy

Ninja 250 is a great bike for beginners. Lets you learn how to actually handle a motorcycle with room for mistakes before stepping upto a Gixxer or R1 which would kill you on your first mistake on the road.

Also good on insurance and relatively cheap
