learning

the M1 test isnt that hard to pass u just have to obtain a Motorcycle Hand Book & also its also good to have the Car Hand Book in hand because to have to know some signs & road regulations. bike isnt that hard to learn just 2 have to practice but i recommend that to practice on a smaller bike because most SuperSport bikes 600cc have plenty of power to start on & the do get handfull 2 control if ur inexperience rider but if u nsist of getting a 600cc sportbike take ur time & dont get to excited bcause bad things well follow trust me been there. it is not necessary to go to a motorcycle training course but i reccommend that u do because the will teach u how to operate the motorcycle in a safe manner also its a lot easier to obtained ur M2 if u were to take ur M2 test at a Drive Test Centre but any how good luck to u man

i just got my M1 a month ago and took the M2 course at Humber college, just have to wait another 25 days before i can go and get it changed to M2 license.

here is the break down of fees

M1 Test $17.50
Read the book, study the signs, you will have to do the car multiple choice, plus the motorcycle multiple choice, and the road signs. so that is three different tests, and will have to pass all to get your M1.

the M1 license expiries in 90 days, and you need to have it for a min. of 60 days, this is a perfect time to sign up for the M1 Exit course. if you are a beginner, been off the bike for a while. they teach you a lot of good habits, and accident avoidance etc....

M1 Exit Course, cost at Humber college was $425 tax included
the course runs on three days, thursday evening for three hourse (in-class) and sat-sun from 8:30-5:30 (on bike) when i attended there was about 90 people and over 100 bikes mostly Yamaha Virago 250 cc, and a few yamaha TTR dirt bikes, and there was TONS of instructors, we were split into groups of about 10 and each group had about 3 instructors.

There was a few people there who never touched a bike in their life, and some girls were even SCARED off the bikes, by the end of the first half of the day, they were riding with no problems and by the end fo the second day were riding very smooth with a lot of confident which was amazing.

the instructors are very good, and very helpful, i am glad i took that course, especially because of the accident avoidance part, hopefully i won't have to use it, but being on a bike you know you are going to be invisible to other people so it will come in handy

at the end of the sunday you will do your test, you will be tested on 8 things, including turning, swerving, emergency stops, acceleration, etc... one of the test is a 4 in 1, and then u will do 4 other tests for a total of 8, if you manage to score more than 11 points u fail, but out of the 90 people that were there i say only 15 failed, and they get to go back the next weekend for a retest ($75) which includes a two hour refresher.

--

as for the riding gear required for the course, you will need
- Jacket (Denim, or leather jacket will do)
- Pants (Denim, or leather, or motorcycle pants)
- Gloves, that cover the hand well.
- Boots, steel toe boots, or anything that covers the ankles, try to avoid boots with big heels, make it harder to shift gears)
- Helmet, any DOT approved helmet, you can rent them from PARKER BROTHERS, for about $30 for the period of the course.

they just don't want any exposed skin, incase you fall of the bike.

I hope that answers the question, if i can be any more help please let me know.

Nas

oh yeah, the course would you save you on your bike insurance, plus if you join a motorcycle club, some insurance companies will give you a discount as well.

You can learn on a 1000cc bike as long as you're smart and careful. But yeah, I didn't want to start off on a 500 (didn't like the look, and it's got no sound to it) so I went with a 600cc myself. If you also want cheaper insurance look at a Suzuki Katana 600 or a Suzuki SV650...i own the katana 600, but ive ridden the sv650 as well, both bikes are great to start with if you want a bike that's got more power but beginner friendly as well.

masalma:

thanks for posting that

I'm gonna go do my m1 test this friday

so from what im reading you can have ur m1 for 90days correct?

What happens after that?

Im going for vacation next month so I wont be able to do the riding school untill I come back.

again thanks for the info!

EDIT*

you will have to do the car multiple choice, plus the motorcycle multiple choice, and the road signs.
What if I already took the g1 test? Will I have to do the car multiple choice + road signs again? I still have the paper that shows that I passed those two...

EDIT: I just noticed somebody posted the information above but i'll leave what I wrote here anyway. The only difference is at sheridan the group size was 20 people rather than 90 and we have 4 instructors, 2 for each group. You don't have to rent a helmet if you don't have one, they have enough to borrow. And retest is $40-$50 not $75 like humber.

I just went through all this so here's what i know. M1 is $15, it's a written test. It's pretty easy but you also have to retake your g1 test at the same time.

The course at sheridan is $420. It's really fun and with those dirt bikes it's so easy, well easy enough. Humber I believe has these 250 cruiser type bikes that don't look that fun to ride.

For the course you need a helmet (they provide them if you don't bring one), gloves with a leather palm, a good jacket (you don't need a motorcycle jacket, leather, denim, etc, something that will add some protection if you fall), and boots that cover your ankles. Leather boots that is. you can wear construction boots if you want.

besides that, just lots of water and money for food and you're golden.

The first day is an inclass thing and it's 4 hours. It's just a power point presentation. It's not bad, not a zzzzz-fest.

The 2 days of riding is just that, riding. you learn stuff and it's pretty fun. The second day you take the test. It's pretty easy if you listen to the instructors and have been paying attention all weekend.
