What is the danger of riding fast on a motorcycle that needs a new sprocket kit?

I have a 2002 Ninja 500R. It has been making a rubbing noise by the back wheel. The guy at the shop said I need a new sprocket kit, but I haven't gotten it replaced yet. Is it safe to still ride it on the freeway at 60-80 mph?? Also, i just got new tires put on. He said for the 1st 100 miles or so, I shouldn't go that fast.... why? and how fast is too fast?? Thanks!!

If sprocket comes apart chain could wrap around your leg and jerk you onto pavement.not fun. tires.............he's probably thinking he did a crap job mounting them and they might blow out when seal breaks. if they made it ten miles then go as fast as you can.A ninja 500 is not really a mans bike, in case you were wondering

Have you checked your rear disk brake? It sounds like it might be some of that noise you're hearing. And the tire issue might be because you need to wear off the slick finish on the outside before the tire gets proper traction. Don't always take what the guys say at the shop to be completely true.I find that 50% of the time they're not completly sure of what there talking about.I would have to say that to fast would be anything exceeding 65mph.There is no way that they would sell you a tire not capable of doing the legal speed limit. The risk would be to great.

The chain could slip off the worn sprocket and fly off the bike going anywhere, in the air, into pedestrians and leaving you armless or legless. be very careful.

Three things can happen, 1) chain flies off and you coast to a stop2) chain breaks and wedges in the transmission case and breaks expensive parts.3) chain gets in to the wheel and you eat pavement. You gotta ask yourself, do you feel lucky?
