2003 Honda Odyssey check engine light?

I have an 03 Honda Odyssey with 98K miles on it. Yesterday the check engine light came on and today when I drove it I noticed that it revved a lot before shifting into the next gear. And a couple of times after stopping at a light or a stop sign it wouldn't go when I stepped on the accelerator. It just sounds like the wheels are spinning but it doesn't want to go. Any clues? I really don't want to replace a transmission right now. Someone please tell me that's not what it is!

If you take it to Autozone, they'll check it for free.

check your transmission fluid it sounds low. real low! That will make the light come on and keep it from shifting into the next gear. Don't drive it low because you will burn up the transmission and make sure you check it while the car in running.

It is not necessaryly that your transmission is gone, take the car to your friendly mechanic or to autozone, tell them to plug the computer in your car and see what is failing, maybe it is a sensor that handles some throttle or transmission sensors, and that is why it is acting weird. If you finally know your car transmission is getting old, get a Lucas Trasmission Fluid and pour it in, it will fix your tranny for a while and give you some time to save some money and change it.

I have a 2003 izuzu rodeo, my light goes on if the gas cap is loose. Drive over some bumps, see if that knocks it into whack. Are you getting oil changes regularly?

Probably nothing to worry about. Be sure to get oil changes.

did you get the extended warranty? Take it to your Honda dealer and let them check it out. Sounds to me like it might be your speed sensor. A rat chewed thru the green wire on my 2007 Odessey and all kinds of lights came on! The speedometer even quit. Got the wire replaced and it drov like a new car!
