I really like the Honda Element and have looked at it as a future car, but the fact that is only has two seats in the back kind of puts me off. Is there any way to get something that allows three people to be seated in the back or is something like that not being made at the moment?

I currently own one of these and I LOVE IT!! But a major putdown is the fact that you can only sit two people in theback like you said. There is no way you can sit three in the back with all seatbelts. What I do is if someone needs to fit there, they just put a pillow there and sit inbetween two people. Depending on who it is, they can share a seatbelt with someone or not wear one at all. Personally I love this car!! You should highly consider purchasing one of them....
